Bear Trap Dunes

Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club
7 Clubhouse Drive, Ocean View, DE 19970
Yards: 5817, Par 72 (Grizzly / Kodiak - Club Tees)
Website: www.beartrapdunes.com
Score: 81 (41 out, 40 in)
Date: October 6, 2007

Played Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club over the weekend and shot my lowest round ever (Previously 82 @ Bear Trap). From the web site 'Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club offers one of the area’s most unique and memorable golf experiences on the Eastern Shore. Winding bentgrass fairways lined with native wetland grasses drift into natural sand dunes. Impeccably groomed oversized greens and four strategically placed sets of tees beckon golfers of every skill level.'

The course was in great shape, little wet and a few minor dead patches of grass. The tee area was a little rough, the fairways were in fantastic shape and the greens were a little slow at first, but once the fog burned off and the sun came out, they became quicker toward the end of the round.

Hmmm...an 82 and then an 81. Remind me never to play that course with you...seems that you like it there.

I was looking for reviews on Bear Trap Dunes and found your blog. Thanks for the review and good luck with the blog...you might want to get your handicap checked..carrying a 23.8 index and then shooting 82 and 81 seems a stretch. Your handicap seems a bit high.

That 81 was an accident. As you can see, I shot a 110 two weeks later. Thanks for the post.

I like those kind of accidents. I am actually playing Bear Trap Dunes next Monday. I see they have 3 nines. Any combination you like better than others?

The Grizzly / Kodiak tracks are not as hard as Black Bear (for me at least). Real nice facility, enjoy it. Dan the golf pro at Bear Trap was over my house yesterday (here in NJ), he was playing Pine Valley today (Shot a 72 the first time playing PV) with my father-in-law. Dan is a really nice guy if you need a lesson or two. Let us know how you scored and your comments on the facility. While you’re down there, Bayside and Baywood Greens are really nice if you have a chance to play them.

Hello, I just happen to find this blog with the comments on Bear Trap Dunes. I play this course a few times a year and enjoy the course. It is always in wonderful shape, very challenging and fun to play, I would recommend this course to everyone.

I always enjoy a beer and eats at the '19th hole' after a round, and the last few times has been really bad. Just a little background, Bear Trap had a great bar and restaurant a few years back, I played late on Friday one day and they even had king crab legs, only on Friday nights which were very tasty. Then they 'remodeled' the bar and restaurant, changed the menu (no more king crab legs), now the bar and restaurant has a cold feeling when you walk in and look around. Even worse is the food. The last three post round visits to the bar, the food has been awful. I don't know what happen, maybe they lost a chief, new management, I don't know. The last time I played Bear Trap, Mid October, I left right after the round and ate elsewhere. I played with a member that day, and he mentioned that most of the members are very unhappy with the bar/restaurant issue they are experiencing.

Play the course, you will enjoy it, ate elsewhere, you will thank me.
